Our History

In 2001, God placed on the heart of Pastor Trevon and Elder Qwynn Gross the vision of starting a church in the Jackson, NJ area. God directed them to the Book of Colossians. Through a careful study of this book, God showed them that He would raise up a church in the Jackson area that would assist people in committing to live the principles of scripture, demonstrate the compassion of God towards others and provide opportunities for meaningful praise and worship. God also showed them that the foundation of the church must be the “Word of Faith” (Romans 10:8).

On November 24, 2002, the vision for Hope Cathedral became a reality. Our first worship service was held in the family room of the home of Pastor Trevon and Elder Qwynn Gross. 17 people were in attendance at this inaugural service.

God blessed our ministry and, as a result, on Sunday, January 26, 2003, we moved to Crawford-Rodriguez Elementary School located at 1025 Larsen Road. With God’s faithfulness, solid biblical messages and added space, the ministry grew by leaps and bounds. Volunteer ministries were formed to service the people and spiritual growth campaigns strengthened our faith and walk with God.

2005 proved to be a truly exciting year in the life of our church. God expanded our borders and increased our territory. God showed His faithfulness by increasing Hope Cathedral physically, spiritually and geographically.

We experienced tremendous growth physically as our church membership more than doubled, resulting on September 11 the addition of an 8:00 am Sunday service, the start of the Circles of Hope Discipleship ministry, as well as the creation of several fellowship ministries.

Hope not only grew in numbers, but spiritually as well. As a church we participated in four spiritual growth campaigns including a church-wide 21 day fast, which propelled us to a higher spiritual level in the Kingdom of God. Lastly, we were geographically increased. On February 28, 2005 we purchased nearly 10 acres of land in Jackson to become the future home of our new church campus.

Our initial First Fruits Offering and participation in the first HFT Capital Campaign gave all the saints an opportunity to actively contribute to the building of God’s house and to be a part of history in the making.

God continues to be faithful to what he has called us to be; a Beacon of Hope to the community. We look forward to Godfulfilling every promise He has made and stand in expectation for the awesome and glorious things to come. It won’t be long now.

To God be the glory!
